Tierra archaeologists are currently working with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Cruces District Office to document and protect two Mimbres Mogollon rock art sites in Luna County, New Mexico. The sites span over 10 acres and contain hundreds of petroglyph panels representing human figures, animal figures, and geometric designs that commonly appear on Mimbres pottery. Tierra archaeologists have captured images of the rock art using high-quality digital cameras and documented nearly 300 panels using BLM rock art forms. Staff members are also using photographic technology to model some of the most intricate panels in three dimensions.
